Hi Gareth,
I think I told you before about the frequent intermarriages between JERMAN
and ASHTON.
Perhaps you can find 'your' connection in some of the following data:

NLW B/1820/50 W
Valentine ASHTON of Wain, parish of Llandinam, County of Montgomery
To son Valentine £ 30
To dau. Elizabeth wife of David GERMAN of CaeIago £ 20
To dau Ann wife of John GERMAN of Belom £ 20
To dau MARY wife of Owen TUDOR £ 20
To dau Margaret wife of John MILLS of Bwlchyrenwin £ 20
To dau JANE wife of Robert BROWN OF Cwmo.Bach £ 20
Lastly remainder equally divided between son John
and dau. Hannah who are executors 8Nov1819 (£138-5-0)

The deceased Valentine Ashton 1731?-1820 above, husband of Elizabeth Lloyd
and son of Roger Ashton 1702?-1770?, was 1st cousin to the brothers
Valentine Ashton 1725-1816, and Edward Ashton 1728-1793, sons of John
Ashton 1696-? and Elizabeth Benbow, named below.
Thus Elizabeth Ashton 1768-1861, wife of David German of Cae Iago, would
have been 2nd cousin to the married cousins Edward Ashton 1761-1811, and
Anne Ashton 1770-?, living up the road at Cwmdylluan (Cwmdualluan). She may
have been a sympathetic aunt to all the disabled brothers & sisters of
Richard Ashton 1801-?. It seems that Edward's brother John 1770-1846,
continued to look after the family after Edward's early death.

John Ashton 1667-1732 and Mary (Richards) Jarman 1671-? produced John in
1696, 2nd of 8 children.
John Benbow 1666-1730 and Esther Jarman 1677-? produced Elizabeth 3rd of 4
children.
John Ashton 1696-1733 and Elizabeth Benbow 1704?-? produced 4 children:
1st Valentine Ashton 1725-1816 married Mary Evans & produced Anne, 9th of
10 children.
2nd Edward Ashton 1728-1793 married Martha Lewis & produced Edward in 1761,
1st of 6 children.
Edward Ashton 1761-1811 married first cousin Anne Ashton & produced 6
children all deaf and dumb except Richard 1801-?, 3rd of 6 children.
Richard Ashton 1801-? farmed Cwmdualluan 150 acres with his disabled
siblings, married Anne Davies 1806-? & produced Ann 1834, Richard 1838?,
Elizabeth 1841 and Edward 1846.

My record goes no further but maybe this last Richard 1838? is the Richard
Ashton you seek.
Cae Iago is just 1/4 mile east of Van (Y Fan) and just 1/4 mile south of
Cwmdylluan - neighbouring farms.

Much of the above information is courtesy of Mrs. Gwyneth Davies of Bridgenorth

Cheers, Tony
