Hi Tricia,
Thank you for the 1871 census. Most of these people I have already found on
the 1851 but it is nice to see how they pan out over the years. Some are
definitely mine, others I am not so sure of.
The question you ask me about Thomas Phillips I am not sure about. All I
have is an e-mail from a chap who answered another question for me and
because a Maddy was mentioned he sent me the details. Apparently an Evan
Phillips lived in Llanfilo in the early 1800's and his Will was dated 1836
and his Probate 1841. He had obviously married a Maddy as his two
brother-in-laws were Executors of the Will, one Benjamin Maddy and one
William Maddy. He had a daughter Martha, a daughter Elizabeth and a son
Walter. Is it a possibility that Walter's son could have been Thomas
Phillips?
I have so many Mary Maddys on my list I really could not tell you which one
fits the bill.
As a postscript you wouldn't have any idea why a death is not registered on
the new site of DM 1837-1902 would you as I have trawled through 10 years on
the site and used up a lot of credits only to find that my Evan Maddy who
should have died somewhere between 1851 and 61 is not there. I am loathe to
use any more credits chasing after 1861 as he was supposedly 80 in 1851 and,
although I know he could possibly have made it to 90 (give or take whether
the census was entirely right on his age in 1851), he was born in1774 and I
am not sure that he would still be alive in the middle of the 1860's. I
thought they had to have some form of registration before they could bury
them after 1837.
With best wishes and thanks,
Hope you find your Phillips.
