Subject: Re:[POWYS] Abraham Francis
Hello Gwyneth,
I am always interested in hearing about any FRANCIS within travelling
distance of the Tanat valley.
For several years I have chased my Francis' family up the river Dee to
Llangar & Llandrillo, MER, looking for a Thomas Francis who died in Cefn
Coch, Pennant, in 1799 aged 69. Imagine my delight just recently when I
found a motherload of FRANCIS living over many generations in Llanrhaeadr
ym Mochnant and there, among the baptisms was: 30 Jan 1729: Thomas Francis
s/o Thomas & Dorothy.
As the saying goes: if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
Imagine my frustration a little while later when I read through the Burial
register and found: 13 Feb 1729: Thomas Francis infant s/o Thomas
So I've been clutching at straws:
This was a different Thomas -but I need another baptism!
Thomas & Dorothy produced a replacement Thomas later -I need another baptism!
A different Francis couple, there a plenty there; produced my Thomas -I
can't see another baptism.
So I'm back to searching more parishes.
I needed to anyway - I never found his marriage to Mary about 1764.
I did notice a Marriage Bond at the NLW:
FRANCIS, Thomas, bach., Llanbrynmair, MGY. 1769, Jun 15. At Ll. Mary
Davies. A,B. 71/48. -and there was a possible connection through Ezekiel
Hamer, vicar at Pennant Melangell but married in Machynlleth in 1769.
-but my Thomas Francis and wife Mary had had 3 children by 1769, with young
Thomas on the way.
So if you go that far back and see a Thomas Francis b.1729/30, please let
me know.
thanks for the offer, Tony in White Rock, B.C.
