Thank you very much for your explanation of the address - it makes perfect
sense with the details on the certificate. Clearly there were several "men
of means" in the vicinity with large numbers of staff, and my gg grandfather
was clearly working within one such local household in 1840/41 (his wife had
died at (simply) "Berriew", in early 1840, ten months before their infant
daughter).
Yet another piece fitted into the puzzle. There are many pieces - my gg
grandfather's known family now stands at three wives and fifteen children.
Widowed twice, I hasten to say.
I confess that although I have the 1881 CDs I had not thought to look at
them for an answer. We live and learn! As a novice I find that one of the
greatest challenges in family research is the need for lateral thinking!
