Many societies are already doing this, including the Mongomeryshire
Genealogical Society!!! Under the umbrella of www.northwalesbmd.org.uk I
have photocopied the index books of the local registrar in Welshpool and
Machynlleth [Newtown to follow in 2004] and I have a team of volunteer
typists [!?] inputting the data for uploading on to the site. You will see
on that site that searches are free, together with a prepared form to apply
for certificates. A sample of births [for Llanrhaiadr YM sub-district
1837-1866] has already been uploaded and more will follow as time permits.
I have also approached the Powys FHS concerning other Registrar Offices in
Powys and am awaiting a reply!?
