Hello Jan and Dennis,
Congratulations on finding a connection. I know from experience just how exciting it is to find a previously unknown relation.
I have recently been updating my Hamer ancestors and Margaret Hamer the daughter of my 7 x great grandfather Abraham married a Thomas Cleaton the 27th February 1704 in Llandinam. I have reason to believe that Abraham's mother Margaret came from the Trefeglwys area but even without this connection the two parishes are joined at one point.
Thomas and Margaret Cleaton (nee Hamer) had the following children:
Richard, Baptised 9th July 1706 in Llandinam
Thomas, Baptised 19th February 1709 in Llandinam
Susannah, Baptised 19th May 1710 in Llanidloes
Thomas, Baptised 9th August 1713 in Llanidloes
Reynold, Baptised 27th December 1716 in Llanidloes
John, Baptised 26th December 1719 in Llanidloes
Margaret, born about 1720
It is very likely that the first Thomas died in childhood.
I haven't done any work on the Cleatons as they are only connected through Margaret's marriage. She was a sister to my 6 x great grandfather Richard Hamer. I have just looked at the Cleaton family tree in Ronald Morris' book and I see that the earliest listed Cleaton was a Reynold from The Gorn which I think is close to the boundary between the parishes of Llanidloes and Llandinam. There are no dates for him but according to the chart his son John was born in 1764. There could possibly be a connection to the Reynold Cleaton in my family tree as it isn't a very common first name.
Regards,
Margaret Harvey
