Here I just go and assume everyone is going to know what it is:

First Footing, the tradition of a dark haired male being the first to cross
the threshold of the house, bearing coal and bread, or perhaps whiskey now,
for good luck. He should be the first to cross before the new year....or
just after the new year's begun?....I'm crossing it now but you get the
idea.
