Pat,

It's not "Radenshire" but "Radnorshire".

I did some research on this very prolific PUGH family about 10 years ago as my cousin in Wales has PUGH ancestry on his maternal line.

While I don't have the baptism of Jane, it should be a relatively easy birth certificate to order if she was born prior to the family emigrating and if they registered the birth.

I was given much of this information by a late member of Powys FHS, Mr. Austin PUGH, and rounded it out with research at Powys County Archives. My focus was Josiah PUGH (b.abt.1781, St. Harmon, RAD) and wife Sarah PRICE. They farmed Cynch, St. Harmon, Radnorshire, where his father had farmed.

A brother of Josiah (there were many) was Hugh PUGH (bapt. March 16, 1777, d. 1873, according to Mr. Austin Pugh). My notes for Hugh PUGH state that he farmed Penybank, parish of Llanbadarn Fynydd, wife's name not known. The family emigrated to Canada in 1842 and they had 13 children. Austin PUGH may have corresponded with a Canadian researcher in order to have known the year of death of Hugh Pugh.

If this information is correct, it should be easy enough to find them in the 1841 Census for Llanbadarn Fynydd, at Penybank Farm. Someone on this list may have easy access to this census and could look this up for Pat?

If you contact me off-list, I can photocopy the charts I made up at the time and mail them to you. From Hugh, I have the direct ancestors going back 3 generations to one Edward PUGH who died 1712 and is buried at Abbey Cwmhir, Radnorshire.

Many of this family became Baptists so the likelihood of locating baptisms of infants is small unless they used the parish church for baptisms.

Regards,

Julie Preston

Hello Godfrey- Any references to Jane Pugh, born Jan 6, 1842? As a baby,
moved with parents (Hugh and Mary?) from "Radenshire" to Toronto. Married
Richard Lewis in Kenosha Wisconsin-- Nov 1861. Jane's info has been obtained
from obituary in Iowa, so I'm not confident about parents' names, etc. Long
shot.... your Thomas Pugh might be a link? Thanks!
Regards,
Pat Lewis
