Hi Darla,
I have your Benjamin Franklin Prater as the son of Thomas Prater and Lettie
Farley but I have Thomas as the son of Joseph and Sarah Prater. Joseph, born
c. 1804 in NC, is the son of Archelus Prater and Rosanna Lentz/Lance.
There are two Thomas Praters in Warren and Cannon County. The Warren County
Thomas Prater, born c. 1817, is the son of Archelus Prater. We can find no
evidence that he was ever married. He is enumerated in the 1850 census
living in the household of his father Archelus Prater along with Thomas'
brother Benjamin P. Prater (and his family), James Prater (and his wife
Margaret Elkins Prater), and a 6-year old girl Caldonia Brown. This Thomas
M. Prater is enumerated in the Archelus Prater 1850 Warren County, TN Census
PP 81A, district 13, dwelling 1081. Thomas is listed as a farmer.
The Cannon County Thomas Prater (b. c. 1829) and "Letty J" are enumerated in
the 1850 Cannon County, TN Census page 771 dwelling 498 with their son Joseph
Prater age 2.
The Warren County Thomas, son of Archelus, died without a will before
November 9, 1866. The inventory of his estate is filed Warren County, TN
Wills, Inventories, Sale Bills & Settlements Book 4 page 225-226 and was
filed November 9, 1866.
Thomas (and Letty Farley Prater) bought 40 acres of land in Warren County, TN
District 11 from G.W.F. Wale (Warren County, Deed Book 2 page 205) on July
the 16th, 1866 for $150 ("One bay mare paid in hand, and one note for twenty
five dollars due the 24th of December 1867"). The transaction was witnessed
by Joseph Prator and John Prator. In 1870, this Thomas was still living and
he and Letty were enumerated in the 1870 Warren County census.
