Greetings to all --
I used the PREBLE-L address. I hope that everyone is on it by now.
Peter is the administrator, so he should be able to tell us if anyone is
missing.
Peter -- I also sent this directly to you in case I failed in my attempt
to use the other address. If I did it correctly, you should get two
copies.
I looked at the first two generations on the new website. I gave my
comments on the first generation directly to Peter. He will update the
corrected information shortly.
Here are my comments on the second generation:
Stephen Preble: Although his age at death (51 in 1691, see Bragdon, et
al., 1992)) puts his birth date c1645, Noyes (1939), lists his birthdate
c1656. I wonder why the discrepancy. In any case, we should note it.
Nathaniel Preble: Baptized in Scituate, Massachusetts on 9 April 1648
(Noyes, 1939). Killed in the Candlemas Day Massacre. There is some
confusion about when the massacre occurred. John Preble, who Noyes
(1939) says was probably killed in the massacre, had his estate
administered on 1 March 1692. Candlemas Day is February 2nd. A
reference in a query puts the date of the massacre at 24 Jan 1692. I
cannot find much more.
Benjamin Preble: The Kendall and Allied Families website
[http://genweb.net/~kendall/index.html] lists birthplace as Scituate,
Massachusetts. Although the reference cites Noyes (1939), there is no
birthplace listed in that work (only the birth date).
John Preble: As indicated above, Noyes (1939) indicates that he was
"probably" killed in the Candlemas Day Massacre. We need to do a little
more research on this issue.
Should we include Rachel? Noyes (1939) only lists "daughter," with no
birth date. Banks (1967) does not list the additional daughter at all.
I believe (but I do not have the book in front of me) that G.H.Preble
(1868) lists Rachel.
We probably all have some good narrative materials these folks. I
suggest that we hold on to them until we get the vitals squared away.
Finally, our we planning to cite every entry? I noticed that the
Kendall and Allied Families website
[http://genweb.net/~kendall/index.html] does. Although it may be
cumbersome in this format, the value will clearly outweigh the burden.
That is all I have for now.
Happy New Year!!
