they lived upon this farm until 1864, when they moved to their present
cozy home in New Paris. In the meantime a fine well improved farm with
90 acres of cleared land had taken the place of the forest and a very
comfortable frame house and a very good frame barn had replaced the log
buildings. Nearly all this change had been brought about by the
individual labor of Mr. Thomas.
The duties of the wife at that time were more arduous than at present.
Besides all the labor devolving upon the farmers wife she made the
clothing to make from raw material. The flax and wool were spun into
yarn and woven into cloth; Aunt Sivilla boasts that she has spun 32 cuts
of woolen yarn in a day.
In 1864 they sod their farm to Isiah Wenger, their son-in-law and have
since resided in New Paris.
