1. John Price, b. 1584 in Brecknok, Montgomeryshire, Wales d. ca 1638 in
Henrico Co., VA. married (1) Mary ____ (2) Ann Mathewes, b. 1599

John Price came from England to America in the ship STAR and landed in
Jamestown, Virginia in May 1620. John was 36 years old and had a
teenage son when he and his wife, Mary, came to Virginia. This son,
William, came with his parents, but another son, Matthewes, age 5 years
remained in Wales with relatives until 1635.
Mary died about the year 1622, presumably killed in the great Indian
massacre at Jamestown in May 1622. John then took a second wife. John
and his two sons, William and Matthewes, became landholders on the Neck
of Land in Charles City County. In 1626 John owned 100 acres of land
near the Falls of James River in Henrico County. (Virginia Historical

The younger son spent the remainder of his life there. After the
Massacre at Jamestown, John Price was a man of importance in the
Colony. and one of the eleven counsellors with Sir Francis Wyatt in the
Provisional Government when the London Company was dissolved; his name
appears with thirty-two others in an appeal to King Charles I of

On the southerly side beginning from the Falles, there are these
PATTENTS granted: John Price - 150 acres, Henrico Co. 1620 (Manuscript
by R.A. Brock, Southern Historical Society, Richmond, VA.)

Among the list of inhabitants in Virginia, 23 Jan 1624 were:
John Price aged 40 yrs. [came]in the STAR in May
Ann his wife aged 21 yrs. [came] in the FRANCIS BONAVENURE
in August 1620
Mary a child aged 3 months

John and his son, William, were planters, home builders, and assisted in
governmental affairs of the Colony.

John's childen by 1st marriage:
1) William Price, b. ca 1607 or before in Wales
(According to Burke's History of Virginia, William was living at College
Landn near Jamestown in 1623, His descendants lived in Glouchester,
Middlesex and other eastern counties.

2) Matthewes Price, b. 1615 in Wales d. in Henrico Co. Va. married
________ Calvert, duaghter of George or Charles Calvert, founder of the
Maryland Colony.

Matthewes Price, son of John and Mary ____ Price and [as] heir of John
Price, deceased, was granted 150 acres of land in Henrico Court 23 may
1638. (Virginia Colonial Record, Vol. V) Matthewes remained in Wales
with relatives and came to America in 1635 on the ship GEORGE; John
Severne, ship's Master.
Matthewes Price was an honorable free-holder; belonged to the gentlemen
free-holders and the militia, for every honorable freeman was mustered
into service for the purpose of defending the country, and helping to
build the Empire.

John Price, b. ca 1650 in Henrico Co., VA. d. c. 1711 in Henrico Co.
Married ca 1690 to Jane Pugh.

John Price, son of Matthewes and ___(Calvert) Price, "came in for the
land at the Falls of James River and other Henrico lands." He had 3
sons and 2 daughters who survived him.
Jane was the daughter of Henry and Jane (Womack) Pugh.
Their children:
1) John Price, Jr. married Mary Randolph, daughter of William Randolph
2) Daniel Price b and d ? married Sally Coleman, daug. of Stephen
(Daniel was one of the Committee of Safety, he settled in Pittsylvania
near Danville, VA.)
3) Pugh Price, b. 1690 d. 1775 in Prince Edward Co., VA. married (1)
