We have included as much as we know on our branch of the Stelling
family tree. If you can fill in any blanks or add information on
earlier ancestors, place names, dates, etc., please contact us. Thank

Johann Stelling arrived in America on June 28, 1848, name of ship
unknown, probably originated in Bremen. We know this because of the
date prominently inscribed in the front of his German-language,
Lutheran Bible, published by the Amercian Bible Society (these were
often distributed to arriving immigrants as they came down the
gangway). We have copies of his natualization papers which show that
he came from the Kindom of Hannover. Familiy stories had it that he
came from a village called "Stallone"; recently we have discovered the
correct spelling of this town, Stadtlohn, and it location on the edge
of the old Hanoverian realm near the Rhine River and the Dutch
frontier.
