Hi Listers:

I'm new to the list and sure could use some help with finding my Prussia
ancestors.

My grandfather, Albert Emil Ohlsen, was left an orphan by the time he was
four year old--his mother (Sophie Dohse) born abt 1858 in Lutchenburg,
Schleswig-Holstein, Prussia, died 15 Jan 1890 in Rushville, Sheridan County,
Nebraska; his father (Johan Carl Ohlsen) born abt 1834 in Kappeln,
Schleswig-Holstein, Prussia, died 15 Jan 1890 in Rushville, Sheridan County,
Nebraska. Johan Carl's son (Johnny-age abt 27) from first marriage with
Christina B. Burmann took Johan Carl's body from Rushville to Grand Island,
Hall County, Nebraska, for burial. Johnny became sick and died a couple of
weeks after his father was buried and was buried in the same cemetery plot
with his father, mother, and step-mother.

Johan Carl married Christina B. Burmann in Prussia (probably in
Kappeln--date unknown). The family story goes that Christina had been
married before this marriage and had a son by that marriage. She also had a
hotel which was sold; with that money they bought a large boat and Johan
Carl Ohlsen who had been a sailor and sailed to America with his family in
that boat with the help of his step-son.

After Christina's death (date unknown), Johan Carl (age 50) married Sophie
Dohse (age 26) on 21 March 1884 in Grand Island, Hall County, Nebraska.

I believe Johan Carl Ohlsen's father was Johan C. Ohlsen; his mother was
Anna Tiesen Ohlsen. Any help in how to proceed would be greatly
appreciated. I have not done any research outside of the United States.

Peg
