According to my family history and census records, my gg grandfather,
Frederick C. Nagel supposedly was born in Brisen, Prussia April 18, 1822. In
doing searches, I have found three towns by that name around Berlin. Any
suggestions on how to find where he originated and

Family lore says that Frederick Nagel was the older son of a member of the
landry gentry or minor nobility in Germany and that he left there because he
did not want to marry the girl his father had selected for him nor did he
want to serve the compulsory military service. He started work with the
Wabash Railroad and at the time of his retirement was in charge of the
'stores' in Ft. Wayne, IN.

His obit says he immigrated through New York May 27, 1847, but I can't find
any ships from Germany that arrived on that date.
