Looking for info about parents of WILLIAM JOHN PRYOR/PRIER of Lawrence Co.,
TN 1829 to 1863. William John b. 5-28-1849 d.1902. Married MARTHA MARTELA
BRASHEAR 10-20-1846. Their children were, Mary D b. 8-17-1848, Susan or
Susanna Angeline b. 12-31-1848, John T. b. 7-14-1850, William Riley (my
g-g'dad) b. 3-20-1852, Berry B. b. 12-18-1853, James H. b. 5-16-1855, Sarah
B. b. 2-13-1857, Joseph Allen and Martha Lydia b. 9-26-1859 and Stephen P.
b. 9-26-1862. In May of 1861 the 3rd Tennessee Infantry Regiment was
formed. Company K, the "Lawrence County Invincibles", was made up of
Lawrence Co. men. William John was one of these men. Most of the 3rd Tenn
was captured by Grant at Ft Donelson. William escaped and was reassigned to
Co. G of the 48th Tenn Infantry. He was captured 11-16-1863 at
Lawrenceburg, TN. He was held POW at Camp Morton, Indianapolis, IN. On
3-24-1865 he and approx 85 other POW's joined the Union Army and were
released. Sometime before release date Martha and 10 children relocated to
Indianapolis. they settled in Hamilton Co., just north of Indianapolis.
Many sources list Martha as Martha Matilda. That's wrong! Marriage license
clearly shows her middle name as Martela. Some sources show Joseph Allen as
Jacki. We have no idea where that comes from. Pryor/Pryer/Prior's listed
1820, 1840, 1850 Lawrence Co. census. Does anyone know where they were in
1830? Can anyone link William John to; Thompson Pryor, Dicy Pryor, Jonathon
Pryor, Henry Pryor, Francis Pryor or Nathan Pryor? Thanks for any help...
