My husband has always remarked when we were on our way from Aberdeen to the
north beaches about the bootleggers rendezvous at Grass Creek. Seems the
bootleggers had an "in" with a radio operator preported to be our own KXRO
who would play a certain tune when the way was clear to land the liquor.
Many years later my mother and I rented a log house on the south beach at
Grayland where we were told there had been a hidden still in the basement,
(which we never found) and the speakeasy operated out of the house. Made
for fun discussion, but I doubt it could be substantiated. Anyway the
place is now called "The Rose Cottage" a gift shop next to the Seastar
Restaurant. A fun place to visit and a great place to eat. (NO! I am in
no way affiliated with either establishment.)
