LOWELL - Georgina (Cruz) Alvarado, 74, a retired minister and Lowell resident, died yesterday, Jan. 14, at a local nursing home. She was the wife of the late Jose Alvarado.
She was born in Comerio, Puerto Rico, on May 20, 1929, daughter of the late Monserrate Cruz and Josefa (Alicea) Cruz.
Prior to residing in Lowell, Mrs. Alvarado had lived in Holyoke for 27 years.
During her service as a minister, she was affiliated with churches in Holyoke, Connecticut, Springfield and Worcester.
She is survived by two sons, Pablo Rivera and Luis Orlando Alvarado, both of Holyoke; a brother and sister-in-law, Jose Cruz and his wife Fela of Jamestown, N.Y.; two sisters, Maria A. Cruz and Rosa M. Cruz, both of Lowell; nine grandchildren, Pablo, Alicia, Rafael, Margarette, Javier, Diana and Daniel Rivera and Keileine and Mike Alverado; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including Ana J. Monegro and Olga Diaz, both of Lowell, and Migdalia Berrios, residing in Puerto Rico.
She was a sister of the late Mercedes Martinez and Angel Cruz.
