Hello all,

I'm beginning my research on my maternal grandmother. Her name was Digna Emerita Rivera Cofresi born in Humacao around 1925ish. She had somewhere between 3-4 sisters. Both her parents (we don't know their names yet...but as you can tell from her surname, her father's last name had to be Cofresi and her mother's maiden name was Rivera) and all but one sister (Juana) died from tuberculosis when she was a child. Little else is known about her family. Emerita died in NYC in 1978.

I'll be going to Humacao this summer and would like to research her family. Anyone with information, tips, or advice, please feel free to email me at .

In the 1930 Census of PUNTA SANTIAGO, HUMACAO there is this family:

Rivera Resto, Juan, 44, married, anconero(works in the ancones-boats)
Cofresi, Francisca, 24, married
Rivera Cofresi, Iluminada, 7, daughter
Rivera Cofresi, Emerita, 5, daughter
Rivera Cofresi, Luisa, 18 mos.,daughter

These seem to be your Gmother and her family!

You should further research the 1920 and 1910 Census for the same barrio. Please note that her father's name was RIVERA and her mother's name was COFRESI.
