Hi List:
Every now and then I see a comment about the 1787 Austrian Cadastral Records
(at www.carpatho-rusyn.org/ click on lemko village resource guide) The list
of the Krasna parish data has my grandmothers name of Sporniak. The trouble
is what to do next - while Krasna is not available on LDS microfilm yet,
many other villages are and I think I finally found another site that might
be helpful.
The site is http://lemko.org/roots.html and, for me, it was very interesting.
(of course, I haven't been doing research very long) It has LDS info,
Polish and Ukrainian archives addresses, lists of churches of the Lemko
Apostolic Administration ( same as on the 1787 cadastral records), lots of
history, etc. etc. One of the authors who contributed to the cadastral
records, Oleh W. Iwanusiw, wrote 2 books "Church in Ruins" (part 1 & 2). In
the "Index of Localities of the Eparchy of Persmyshl" click on "Church in
Ruins" in the title and you'll come up with an intro and comments by him but
- at the end of all of this - is pictures and even more info about the
churches. It was so awesome to see St. Michaels in Krasna, rebuilt in 1914,
as one of the lucky ones to still be standing.
Also at this site, the "Vital & Marriage Records from Greek Catholic &
Orthodox Parishes" includes Austrian Galicia, former Malo Rus, Ukraine,
Poland, and Belarus has a "File Index by Locality", which could be helpful to
someone.
Happy hunting and I am still researching SPORNIAK, WOZNIAK, LESNIAK,
KYRYCHUK, ZIEJA, AND MROZ
Thanks to all who have helped me, Nancy
