I am looking for a Poland connection for my great grandfather; JACOB
HECHLINSKI (also spelled as CHECHLINSKI but pronounced the same.)

He was born in Poland about 1830 but I don't know where. We suspect that he
came from Poland about 1871 or early 1872. We are still researching his
movement across the Atlantic.

Also, we are looking for the same connection with his wife, NEPOMUCENA
KOSMATKA (also spelled as KOZMATKA or KAZMATKA or KASMATKA.)

They were married in 1871 and she claimed a ancestry of Polish-German. We
think she came over on the Holsatia from Bremen alone, Germany on or about
May 22, 1872. We suspect that Jacob came over in the few months prior.

In the U. S. they moved from New York City to Utica, New York in Onieda
County. They had two children there, Michael and Joseph.

Shortly thereafter, the family moved to northern Indiana and settled. There
they had two more children JOHN HECHLINSKI (my grandfather) and MAGDALENA
HECHLINSKI. Please note that the CHECHLINSKI form of the name was more
prevalent than HECHLINSKI even until my father was born in 1909.

Jacob died early on and Nepomucena re-married three more times. She married
JOHN BANICKI, a man with the surname of JULKOWSKI (sometimes spelled
Zulkowski) and LAWRENCE MACKOWSKI.

Any help you can provide, on either side of the ocean, will be greatly
appreciated.

Thank you,

Bob
