Hi Bonnie

When you say "parish" it tends to imply Roman Catholic, but the Shurtleffs I
believe were Protestant and a large family particularly in Stanstead County.

The Stanstead Historical Society (and several others) has the Protestant churches
B-M-D records for the District of St Francis which covers the areas that you
mentioned. That index includes marriages in Hatley (which were probably at the
Freewill Baptist Church). They also have a fairly extensive (but not totally
complete) cemetery index.

The History of Stanstead County by Hubbard has quite a number of listings in the
index for Shurtleff. There is more than I am willing to type in, but if you give
me a name or two I will be happy to check for you and give you the information if
there is a match.

You should have luck with the surname Shurtleff as I have noted that there are
quite a few people researching it. I suggest that you also post on the ET Query
Board, but for best results always make sure that you that you give the full name
and a timeframe in addition to locations (if known of course).

Good luck

Bob
