Well, there goes another dream....

The author of "A Discovery of the Barmodas", Silvanus Jourdain, sometimes
referred to as Silvester Jourdan, was definately the name of the person who
was in the employ of the Admiral of the Fleet. He, the Admiral and a Mr.
Strachey, who was the Secretary-elect of Virginia, all wrote eye-witness
accounts of the wreck of the Sea Venture.

Maybe someone out there knows if there is a connection between
Silvester/Silvanus and Samuel. Silvanus was from Lyme Regis, Dorset. I
don't know where Samuel was from, but I bet we can find out.

My cousin who travels but doesn't do genealogy sent me a USGS map of
Hopewell, VA, thinking that it was one and the same as Hopewell MM. Being
easily entertained, I poured over it and realized that my ancestors names
were on the creeks and valleys, etc. Then it dawned on me that this was the
area where Samuel Jordan had his Jordan's Journey. As far as I could figure
it out by old descriptions, it is about where the Hopewell Municipal Airport
is now. I'd love to find out how close I came.

Now I'm afraid that other people, grasping at straws, may have assumed that
Samuel was one and the same as S. Jourdan, and the myth has carried on. Let
me know if you find anything else on this. We are going to SLC in March, so
maybe I can get into something then.

Thanks a lot, Carole
