Hoover was indeed born in West Branch, Iowa, and is buried there. His
father was the town blacksmith, and the house is still there, open to
the public. He was orphaned at age 8 (or so) and sent to live with an
uncle somewhere in Oregon. So Newberg may well have been his boyhood
home, but is certainly not his birthplace.
