Dear All:
I saw the comment about Accessible Archives charging a fee. I was confused beause
they didn't bother to tell you how to get a subscription when you went there.
Sometimes you have to learn to play with URLs to find out things.
Anyway, I don't think its bad that they want to charge, as long as they continue
to add new databases. I learned at least $70 worth of stuff about my ancestors in
New Jersey and Pennsylvania that I couldn't have found unless someone else has
put the entire newspaper record online.
We are pretty spoiled on free info especially when people used to have to hire
professional Genealogists for even simple trees.
I would be willing to subscribe if I could see a mission statement or some other
sense of where they were going with their site.
I joined Ancestry.com and frankly I am not sure I am getting my moneys worth with
them as much of the info is free anyway. I get a magazine printed on the heaviest
coated stock I have ever seen though....
Newspaper records give us the extra dimension we need and save us trips to the
few libraries that might have the microfilim. Surely thats worth gas, hours and
more. We were baited, though, I admit.
