I have an obit from "The Republican Ledger" for the year 1887 which states
that my gg-grandfather, Benjamin Jefferson DAVIS, b. in Lancaster Co, PA,
died Feb. 17, aged 77 years. The funeral was conducted by Rev. H. A.
COTTINGHAM. Benjamin was buried in Hinkle Crk Cemetery (Quaker). How may I
find whether Rev. Cottingham was a Quaker minister?

Benjamin DAVIS lived in Noblesville Twp. Hamilton Co, IN. The search result
for land patentees shows he purchased land at the time that Jonathan HAWORTH
and Solomon MENDENHALL purchased theirs. Samuel THORNBURGH also purchased
land two years earlier. All these persons were listed as having land in the
same section, twp and range, in Hamilton Co, IN. I have seen the HAWORTHS
MENDENHALLS and THORNBURGHS mentioned on the Quaker List quite often.

On the census of 1840, for Hamilton Co. Benjamin is shown on same page as
Isaac COFFIN and John D.COTTINGHAM. The COFFIN name I see often on the
Quaker List.

My DAVIS family ended up in Lake Co, Lowell, IN before 1900. Down the street
from my grandfather, Benjamin *Johnson* DAVIS, lived Dr. IDDINGS. Dr.
PETRIE, who was my ancestors' family physician, in Lowell, was Quaker.

I have been unable to find any documentation to confirm whether Benjamin
Jefferson DAVIS was, indeed, Quaker. I have searched the IN records, but
nothing seems to relate to him, or his children.

Does anyone have *any* suggestions as to where I may find data on this
gg-grandfather? I received a compilation of the DAVIS family from the Henry
Co IN Historical Society, which I already had, and there was nothing in the
file to indicate a Quaker relationship. They had nothing additional to
offer. Henry Co. is where gg-grandfather, Benjamin DAVIS was mar. to Lucinda
GALLOWAY, 22 Mar. 1831, by John Anderson, JP.

I would appreciate suggestions as to where to look next
