Briefly, Universalists believe in universal salvation. That is, all
persons go to Heaven (however defined) upon death. The emphasis in belief
is that God is good, and therefore would not condemn any of his creatures,
particularly those made "in His image" to eternal damnation.

Universalism in the United States stems from George De Benneville, who came
here in 1741. John Murray and Hosea Ballou were other prominent
Universalists. The movement was especially strong in rural Mid-America.

In 1960, the Universalist Church of America merged with the American
Unitarian Association to form the Unitarian Universalist Association.

Dear Folks:
My ggggrandfather was a Quaker minister in Maryland, named Joseph Summers,
but recently, I found out he was a "Universalist", what is a Universalist?
