Subject: [Q-R] Bond Family in Henry Co., TN, and Newhope MM, NC
Date: Fri, 05 May 2000 08:16:43 -0700
Dear Lists:
Our Bond Family was found, earliest, in Miller Co., MO, in the 1850
Census. Isaac Bond (born about 1815 in TN) married Temperance
Allender/Elender (born 8 Mar 1811 NC died 1894 Tuscumbia, Miller, MO)
about 1837, probably in Henry Co., TN; had children Joseph age 13,
Mahala age 11, Ruth age 9, John age 5 (all the previous born in TN, all
the following born in MO), Sarah age 4, James age 2. The family
information was that the parents of Isaac were Benjamin Bond and Barbara
Dale. The 1840 census index showed an Isaac and a Benjamin Bond in
Henry Co., TN.
I discovered the next generation of this family, I believe.
Benjamin BOND and his wife, Barbara, appear in the Compendium of
Cemeteries for Henry Co.,
as follows:
"Bond Cemetery (duplicate listing of Lime Kiln or Rock Is. Cemetery) on
Rock Island in Kentucky
Lake and Big Sandy River (copied from [1] Mr. Charles Sanders' records
and [2] The Kentucky
Lake Cemetery Relocation Project compiled by Judith Ann Maupin [1975].
According to Judith,
'This is a very old, abandoned cemetery below elevation, containing
eight graves with the last burial
in 1850. Remain permits were executed on the six graves which could be
identified.'"

I think, because I found Joel, John, Joseph and Isaac in Miller Co., MO,
together, that I believe they
are related to the John and children in the NC Newhope MM 1794-1795 who
received a
certificate from the Warrenton MM. Where is Warrenton? It appears that
Newhope was in Greene
Co., TN.
Bond Genealogy, a History of the Descendants of Joseph Bond, by Samuel
Bond Garrett, Muncie,
IN; 1913; Joseph Bond was born 1704 Wiltshire, England and died in the
1750's in NC; also
includes a brief account of many of the descendants of John Bond, his
brother, who also emigrated
to America; the two being sons of Benjamin and Ann (Paradise) Bond, of
Wiltshire, England. On
microfilm #0896877 available from the Family History Library in Salt
Lake City through your local
LDS Family History Center (listed in the phone book under Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter Day
Saints) for about $3.50
I am cautious about Mr. Garrett's book, as we should all be, but it has
copies of some nice early
documents. It is quite long. The descendancies do not include my
family, alas, but I think I have
two ends of the middle of one rope.....trying to splice them together.
Things I would like to know:
Where was the Warrenton MM?
Based on the location of the Bond cemetery, is it now under water? If
so, when were these lands inundated?
Are there any other descendants of that area's families out there who
might have materials for lookups?
Many thanks,
Kathie Donahue
