I'm interested in Belinda Lowe, formerly of Lick Creek MM NC then Indian
Creek MM IN, daughter of John Lowe formerly of Lick Creek. She married
Seth Tatum abt 1821 Monroe Co IN.
I read in Quaker records, probably Heiss, that Tatum, Belinda (formerly
Lowe), was reported for marrying contrary to discipline. Looking at the
Quaker symbols in the front of the book, it says that the term "mcd" meant
that 'both parties wer members of the Society of Friends and were married
by a civil ceremony.'
But I don't think the Tatum family was Quaker. If Seth was Quaker, why was
he not written up or disciplined? Seth was a son of Jonathon Tatum and
wife Mary/Rachel (?), formerly also from NC.
Any enlightenment appreciated.
