Be very skeptical in what you accept on this family from other researchers
or even from published genealogies - very little is known for certain, and
there's a lot of incorrect information circulating. I'm also a descendant
of Francis Clark and Cordelia Lankford. Although I haven't done much
primary research on this family myself, I've looked pretty critically at
what other people have done, and frankly, I don't think we know who his
parents were, much less further back.

I recommend Linda Starr's web site for transcriptions of some relevant
documents and discussion of the possible ancestry and relationship of
Francis and Captain Christopher Clark:
