Hi Marsha,
Thank you for the additional info; as for identifying this Samuel Kelly with
the Kelly who was partners with Furnas, I really can't say. I haven't done
much work in this area; it's just that some of us on the Coates list have
noted that there were some Wylies also living very near these Kellys in
Craven Co. c. 1768(and one of the Coates names in Rowan Co. NC is Wylie
Coates). This suggests a possible connection, but the Coats in Rowan who
some of us currently take to be the father of Wylie is William Coats, who
was liv. in Rowan Co. in 1778(no record of this particular Wm in Rowan
before that date I believe).
I have my doubts, though, about trying to say that Wm Coate of Bush R. SC is
identical to Wm Coats of Rowan Co. NC.....just not sure that this can be
substantiated.
