Herb, unfortunately, the Loftus line is one I have precious little on. I
will print out your message and keep it in case I get more that would
confirm a connection here. I know some folks have Loftus as Loftis or Lofty
also. It might help to check variations on the name. It is the same with
Sotcher (married Loftus); which can also be spelled Satcher.
It is my understanding from others that John Sotcher came over with Penn on
one of his trips back from England to work at Pennsbury. Mary Loftus came
over later (I'm thinking a few years later) and married Sotcher in Penn
Manor. I don't have my notes in front of me, but I believe what I read is
that William Penn's second wife was instrumental in bringing over Mary
Loftus. This info leads me to infer that Loftus and Sotcher met here in
Pennsylvania. From the information that you gave, it sounds like a
connection would have to be found in England or Ireland. As far as I know
it isn't a terribly common name. Best, Tracy
