Hello,

New subscriber here. I have a family which seemed to drift in and out of
Quakerdom and as I do not know where any of them are are buried or where
they were married, I am appealing for some pointers.

The information I have on the Thomas family comes from "Colonial
Families of Philadelphia," Volume 2, page 1639.

"John Thomas, born October 1673, married in Pembrokeshire, June 20,
1706, Jennet ---, born June 1683, and with her and their two eldest
children came to Pennsylvania, September 1713, and settled in Cheltenham
township, Philadelphia, now Montgomery county, on a plantation of one
hundred and ten acres, purchased of Jon Ashman. John Thomas died in
Cheltenham, December 25, 1747, and his widow, January 22, 1755."

They (as John and Jane ROBERTS Thomas) are registered in the Lower
Merion MM notes, evidently, and the birth of at least one of their
children, Nathan, is recorded in those records.

Of the children of John and Jennet/Janet, from the book above, from a
family chart at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, from and the IGI:

I mention last the son in whom I am particularly interested.
Nathan Thomas b January 26, 1720/21 married Elizabeth MATHER, daughter
of Richard MATHER and Sarah PENROSE. The Mather family was "prominent in
the Abington MM" and of Sarah Penrose and her sister it was written: "As
the girls grew up their young associates being Friends induced them to
leave the church of their grandfather at Oxford (Episcopal) and to join
the Society of Friends." So, I would assume the Mather and Penrose
marriage was a Quaker one. But, was the marriage of Nathan Thomas to
their daughter Elizabeth Mather a Quaker marriage? Can either of these
marriages be found in Quaker records?

Also, Nathan's son Jacob Thomas born January 20, 1768 married a Nancy or
Ann Johnson, "daughter of Jonathan Johnson" according to the above
sources. Was she a Quaker? Was this the Jonathan married to Hannah
Pickering, from Buckingham Monthly meeting?

I am hoping some people on this list may be acquainted with some part of
this family, or with the Quaker records of this area, and may be able to
help me out a bit.

As long as I am posting, here are all the descendants I know of from
