The Thomas Pierson whom you mention was not the son of Lawrence Pierson of
Pownall Fee in the county of Chester. The son of Lawrence named Thomas was
a mason, and is mentioned in his father's will 20 June, 1674 .[ Thomas
married Margery Smith dau. of Robt. and Ellen Smith of Pownall Fee on the
eighteenth day of the second month [April old style] in 1683 and they sailed
for America in August on the ENDEAVOR of Liverpool, a 100 ton ketch, and
arrived 27th of the 7th month [Sept]. 1683. The wedding took place at the
house of Thomas Janney, of Pownall Fee. SEE RG 6/1036 PRO.
I have not seen convincing evidence that Lawrence, Thomas's father, was
married to an Elizabeth Janney. This is often cited as being the case but
the only place I have seen it is in the LDS compliations and this
information appears to be based on information from families and not offical
records. The name of Lawrence's wife at the time of the birth of John, [b.
5th day of 7th mo. 1654], Sarah [b. 9th day of 9th mo. 1659],*** and the
entry of her death and burial on 13th Aug. 1662 is given only as Elizabeth,
wife of Lawrence. This was apparently Lawrence's 2nd marriage according to
the best information I have seen, the first being [I think] to Ann Worth who
appears to given birth to no children. These are all from Quaker records
[RG 6/1398 PRO and the group mentioned above.]
If you or anyone you know has any documented information about the marriage
of an Eliz\abeth Janney to Lawrence Pierson/Peirson/Pearson I would very
much appreciate hearing from you as would a number of others working on the
progeny of Lawrence and Elizabeth.
*** the births of John, Edward, Thomas and Mary I have not found in Quaker
records, perhaps becasue they were born before the records were began, but
they are mentioned in Lawrence's will and referred to as his children.
