Hi Greg and List!

Greg, I'm the one responsible for starting the thread on the HOBSONs and
Linneas. Let me better introduce myself to the list. I am Forrest Gene
PLUMSTEAD, son of Arthur James PLUMSTEAD, son of Florence Ellen HOBSON
w/o Robert Clemens PLUMSTEAD d/o Linneas HOBSON. This man has fascinated
me. According to family legend he had a fierce temper, and although I
have heard no stories about violence, he was not a man you wanted to
cross. The story that I heard was that he was disbarred as a lawyer
because of his temper. There was also a story that he was orphaned at an
early age and kicked around from foster home to foster home until at age
16 he went out on his own, however that story has been disproved by the
1880 Blackhawk Co. Census which showed him living with his father,
stepmother and grandmother HEALD. Another story which I heard recently
was that when he went to Denver, (where my grandmother was born 1899) he
made some bad business decisions regarding some get rich quick schemes
and lost all his money. He died in 1934 I do not know where but when my
great aunt, Florence's sister wrote her and told her of her father's
death, her only reaction was "Good riddance!" Greg if you missed my
first post you managed to answer the one question which has been bugging
me for over a year and that is where did he go to law school (I presume
that SUI would be Southern University of Iowa?) and where he practiced
law.

I also have Lydia Watt in my records as the wife of Stephen HOBSON. You
already have my records of John HOBSON's wives.

Hi Jerry,

Its definitely Lydia Watt, she was the daughter of John Watt and Jane
Starr - Lydia is my my gt-gt-gt grandmother. The Plymouth record must be
wrong. Stephen Hobson and Lydia Watt were married 3 Nov 1831 in
Jefferson Co., Ohio.

Thank you for the clarification on Mary Ann Heald. From the family
record kept by my grandaunt Alice Fawcett Emerson:

John Hobson of Waterloo, Iowa - first wife Lucinda Engle? - 2 children,
one a son Linneas (lives Denver). John Hobson had a second wife name
unknown, no children. Third wife was Ella_________.

"Linneas (her spelling) graduated from law school at S.U.I Practiced in
Orange City, Ia. Gave it up on conscientious scruples. Later moved to
Denver, Colorado."

Is the interest in Linneaus due to a descendant sending in a query that
I missed?

Best wishes, Gregory
