Bill Fetters mentions a Thomas Atkinson in his discussion on the Atkinson
family in his book "Six Columbiana County Ohio, Pioneer Families vol. 5.
William Leech (1776-1865) and Jane Garretson: Ancestors and Descendants",
1998

Bill traces the line to a William Atkinson b. ca 1620 in Lancaster, England.
William's sons John and Christopher died on board the ship Britannia in 1699
before arriving at Bucks County. He lists several Thomas' in the book.

Thomas b, 5-3mo 1722 [John, John, William] m. Mary Wildman
Thomas b. 8 10 mo. 1757 [William, John, John, William] d. 1763
Thomas b. 9 8 mo 1751 [ Thomas, John, John, William] m. Sarah Smith
Thomas b. c1758 [ Ezekiel, John, John, William] Cpt in war`of 1812
Thomas b. c1760[Cephas, John John, William ] m. Alice Phillips
Thomas b. 17 8 mo 1806 [Joseph, Cephas, John John, William} m. Fracis Head

There may be others that I missed and were certainly other related Thomas
Atkinsons in the Ohio area in the 1800's. I also could have made typos so
verify the information before using it. I didn't see any Thomas b. 1741 but
several lines were not followeed.

Be careful about simply finding someone with the same name in the same
general location or in assuming that someone with the "Jr" suffix had a
father with the same name. Often, when two people in the same area (or who
attended the same MM) had the same name the younger one was called Jr and
the elder Sr in the records. Other times they were differentiated by their
occupation or residence. The use of Jr. didn't always mean they were
related.

all the controversy is about. We have him in NC, in GA, in OH. Supposedly
according to the DAR, he died in GA. If so, he certainly would not (I
believe) have been buried on his farm in Paoli, IN.

that since the first Thomas Atkinson was born in 1741, if you have anything
mentioning Thomas Atkinson near or after 1841, more than likely it isn't
going to refer to this first Thomas Atkinson.
