Regarding Omie Wise, I recognized the name right off from a college
classin American Ballad and Folk Song I took over 30 years ago from
Dr. William Koon. Dr. Koon had collected ballads and songs in the
Carolina's and other areas in the south during the 1960s, and he had
written our text for the class. Included in it was the Ballad of Omie
Wise. I remember it clearly as one of several murder ballads we
encountered. How interesting to hear of it all these years later in
the context of Quaker ancestry and history. Thank you Marsha.
