As most family researchers know, it is amazing how theiir ancestors follow great individuals and events and sometimes are right there in the thick of things.
Apparently my Joseph ENGLISH, Sr.'s daughter, her husband and children came on the same ship as William PENN on one of his return trips back to America, I believe, the ship was named "Welcome". Joseph came on the ship "Society". They came to Burlington, NJ. Later, they lived across the Delaware River on the NJ side from Pennbury, William Penn's home which was on the PA side. My ENGLISHes were active and owned lands in both NJ and PA. I have a copy of the original (in Harrisburg, PA) land patent #4 in Bucks Co., PA to my Joseph ENGLISH Sr. signed by William PENN. Still later, my ENGLISHes settled in Gloucester Co., NJ along English Creek, NJ. From there Joseph Sr.'s ggg-grandson Abel ENGLISH set out with family (11 children) in two wagons down the National Road ending up in Marshall, Clark County, Illinois in 1835. Abel was now of the Methodist faith and was first minister of that first church which he helped build in Marshall, Illinois. An ENGLISH family reunion in the Marshall area was started and continued for more than 75 years. I'm quite proud of my Quaker ancestors and individuals like Daniel Boone who, I'm sure, was very much influenced by his Quaker family background. I know it has influenced me and my family. Along with Daniel Boone, William Penn and George Fox would be a few folks I'd sure like to have met, if I had lived in their eras. I just love those words attributed to Daniel Boone: "All the Relegan I have to love and fear God beleve in Jeses Christ. Don all the good to my Nighbour and my self that I Can and Do as Little harm as I Can help and trust on God's marcy for the rest and I Beleve God neve made a man of my prisepel to be Lost."

The author, Dr. Hubert English is a cousin to my grandmother, Winona (ENGLISH) CRAIG. Dr. English was a physician for 52 years---47 years in Gary, Indiana, the town I was born in. I remember going to the English Family Reunion every 4th Sunday in August in the Marshall, Illinois area. Dr. English would always bring a family chart and/or a story to tell about the family. He was a gentle and respected man. His Quaker ancestors would be proud of him!

I have been to Nailsworth, England and prayed in the same room of the Meeting House that my ancestors worshiped in. I went to an upstairs room where Sunday school has been taught to the children for centuries and saw what appears to be the initials of one of our ancestors (when a child) carved in the sandstone window sill with the year 1683. It really does come alive sometimes.
