I'm a bit puzzled by the name change. Could this be a case of misreading by
some military officer ? Caspar signed his land petition : Klinshroth
> Dear Dominique,
> In Virginia DeMarce's book we have one Brunswick soldier listed
> with the name
> KLEINSCHMIDT, Casp. Fr., born Ober-Reussen, age 41 (1737/38),
> discharged in Canada in 1783.
> Underneath in my own copy of her book I find my handwritten note:
> Clynshrote, Casper, died July 1797 in Sorel (see microfilm C-7031)
> Since I never found a Kleinschmidt, I am pretty sure this is the same
> John Merz.
