Vital Lapointe

SPRINGFIELD, MA - Vital Lapointe, 79, of this city, died Thursday, 3 May
2001, at Baystate Medical Center. He was a self-employed finish carpenter in
the city and retired in 1984. He also was a heavy-equipment operator for Tree
Preservation Co. of White Plains, N.Y., and in Connecticut for 23 years. Born
in Lambton, Quebec, Canada, he moved to Springfield in 1967 and was a
communicant of the former St. Thomas Aquinas Church. He belonged to Knights
of Columbus Council 4044 in the Fairview section of Chicopee and the
Brightwood Golden Age Club. He leaves his wife of 53 years, the former Luce
F. Vallee; two sons, Pierre J. of Springfield and Roger J. of Stratford,
Conn.; five daughters, Pierrette Lapointe of Sherbrooke, Quebec, Louise
Lapointe-Picard of St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Montreal, Quebec, Denise Robinson
and Luce Vaughan, both of Springfield, and Josie Lapointe of Brockton; two
brothers, Fernand of Lingwick, Quebec, and Normand of Grand Rapids, Mich.;
three sisters, Therese Lapointe of Weedon, Wolfe, Quebec, and Clemence
Lapointe and Celine Lapointe, both of Sherbrooke; and eight grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday morning, 5 May 2001, at St-Pierre Springfield
Funeral Chapels and Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Chicopee,
MA. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in
Ste-Rose-de-Lima Cemetery in the Aldenville section of Chicopee. Calling
hours are late this afternoon through the evening. Memorial contributions may
be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA
