I like your 2 cents, Bridget. Claude David and Guillaume David still have
no documented origins or parents.

Guillaume David, brother to Claude, married Marie Armand at an unknown
location. Marie Armand, in Trois-Rivières 8 May 1658, "asked to be excused
from giving verbal testimony 'in as much as she has difficulty speaking
French'.", as I discovered by sending for the record. Guillaume David and
his family were in "Nouvelle-Hollande" or modern day New York by about
1678, apparently because Marie had relatives there. The family of their
daughter Madeleine David and her husband Jacques Lepage, returned to New
France by 1699 with their children, some of whom were baptized on their
return. Their daughter Marie Lepage went to Fort Pontchartrain. Her
cousin, Thérèse David, daughter of Claude David and Suzanne Denoyon, served
as godmother at the fort for Marie's first child in 1709.

Guillaume David is said to be "of" La Rochelle, France, on the marriage
contract for Madeleine David (widow Lepage)'s second marriage in 1711 to
Jean Poussard in Montréal. (photocopy) Whether that means he was then
living in La Rochelle remains to be proven.

PRDH says to see "The Origins of the Montross and David Families of
Tarrytown," _The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record_, 122-4 and
123-1. I have read these articles by James L. Hansen. They contain no
further information about the origins of this David family but do set
straight some previous errors as well as making the connection to New
France for Pierre Montross [Montarras dit Marmande, assumed to be a member
of the Carignan regiment], husband of Marguerite David, born in 1661 at
Québec, the daughter of Guillaume and Marie Armand. This "Montross" family
also moved to New York and remained there, as Hansen demonstrates.

Hi-

Just throwing in my 2 cents worth -

Neither Jette or PRDH show Blaise David as the father of Claude
David or Guillaume David. Both are of unknown origin according to
these sources.

Jacques David dit Pontife is said to be the son of Blaise David, however.
He was confirmed in 1662 and married in 1662 and at both
events Blaise David is listed as his father and Flavie Morel as his
mother.

It would be interesting to see how these other sources were able to
tie the brothers Claude and Guillaume to this family, too. It appears
that neither of their marriage records at Trois Riviere have been
found.
