..........." The history of the vessel currently known as the USS
Constellation actually involves two separate ships. The first ship, a frigate called the
USF Constellation, was constructed in Baltimore in 1797. By all accounts, it
had a bloody history. Numerous hands died in battles or of disease, and life
aboard the ship proved very harsh. In 1799, a sailor named Neil Harvey was
found asleep on his watch. For this failure, the ship's captain, Thomas Truxton,
ordered the young man executed in a most gruesome fashion, Harvey was tied to
one of the ship's thirty-eight guns and blown to bits.
By 1955 years after the ship was decommissioned and restored and
put on display, the ship started having weird happenings. Blue and white lights
appear on the deck of the ship, a ghost claimed to be that of Neil Harvey,
who wanders the deck. Capt. Truxtun has also been seen on the decks. Carl
Hansen, a past watchman on the boat has been seen by many, including a Catholic
Priest from the reports. He is usually seen playing cards below deck. Another, a
young boy who was said to be the surgeon's assistant in the 1820s was stabbed
to death by two sailors for an unknown reason. All the appearances are usually
accompanied by the smell of gunsmoke."....................................
