November 23, 1907 -- April 20, 2004




PLAINFIELD -- Gerard W. Cot- noir, 96, formerly of Pleasant View Jewett City
died Tuesday morning at the Village Manor in Plainfield.
He was born Nov. 23, 1907, in Artic, R.I., son of the late Stani- slas and
Flore (Chapdelaine) Cot- noir.
On June 13, 1927 he was married to Blanche Jodoin at St. John the Apostle
Church in Plain- field. Mrs. Cotnoir died Dec. 26, 2003. They had been
married for over 76 years.
He was a former resident of Mago Point, Waterford for over 40 years,
returning to Jewett City in 1997. While in Waterford he was an active member
of St. Paul's Church and the Waterford Senior Center. During the 70's and
80's he wintered in Long Key, Fla., and did much traveling. He retired from
Millstone many years ago as a shop steward for the Teamsters Local 493. In
his early years he was associated with Ashland Mill Corp., in Jewett City.
He enjoyed fishing, cards, and woodworking, making crib- bage boards and
pegs and donat- ing them to senior centers and nursing homes. He was a mem-
ber and one time trustee for the Teamsters Local 493, is a mem- ber of St.
Mary Church in Jewett City and the Griswold Senior Cen- ter.
He was predeceased by two brothers Ernest and Elzeore Cot- noir, three
sisters Melodie Messi- er, Leonide Siembab and Jean- nette Morrissette. In
Sept. of 1996 his son Gerard died.
Survivors include two daugh- ters Blanche Fraser of Jewett City, Irene Hyde
and her husband Jack of Stuart, Fla., 11 Grandchil- dren, 16 Great
Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Thursday 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the
Gagne-Piechowski Funeral Home, 490 Voluntown Rd., Rt. 138, Je- wett City.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Church,
Jewett City. Interment will be private. Donations may be made in his memory
to the Vil- lage Manor Recreation Fund, 16 Windsor Ave., Plainfield, CT
06374.
