" The first fatality connected with a passenger train was in 1830, when
British member of Parliment(MP) was run over on the train's opening day
festivities. Lacking a whistle, brakes or even a warning bell, getting the thing going
was more of a priority than stopping it, the train rolled right over the MP
as horrified partygoers looked on."
