Subject: definition of consanguinity

Hi Father Tagart,
The moderator of another group I belong to just posted a definition of
consanguinity. It differs from your's as posted here 25 Oct 2004:
"According to church law in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries,
consanguinity
was an impediment up to the fourth degree of relationship inclusive. The
degrees of relationship begin with the closest common ancestor or ancestral
couple. If the common ancestors are their parents (or one of their parents)
they
are related in the first degree (siblings). If the common ancestors are
their grandparents, they are related in the second degree (first cousins).
If
the common ancestors are their great-grandparents, they are related in the
third degree (second cousins). If great-great grandparents, in the fourth
degree.
If the two persons are related in unequal lines, the relationship is
described as one degree touching the next. An uncle and niece (or aunt and
nephew)
are related in the first degree touching the second; first cousins once
removed in the second degree touching the third, etc."
posted this definition on her German Transcribe group
as a quote from website of
Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired
"To quote from < http://www.tsbvi.edu/policy/dbe.htm >
<The degree of relationship by consanguinity between a person and
his or her descendant is determined by the number of generations
that separate them. An individual's relatives within the third
degree by consanguinity are the individual's:
Parent or child (first degree);
Brother, sister, grandparent, or grandchild (second degree);
and Great-grandparent, great-grandchild, aunt or uncle (who is a
sibling of a parent of the person), nephew or niece (who is a child
of a brother or sister of the person) (third degree). >"
I would consider it a great favor if you woud set the moderator
straight for me and if you like, maybe even the Texas
School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Jim Allan (Webmaster-Jim Allan)
thank you
