FACT OF THE DAY
Today in 1845 Sir John Franklin set sail from Kent on a voyage to discover a
route through the elusive Northwest Passage. He and his men disappeared into
the Arctic wastes and only the preserved bodies of three sailors found on a
remote island gave any clue as to what happened.
