Hello Bev,

From the many answers you have received thus far, you now know that
René BRANCHE was Marguerite LANGLOIS's second husband.

She died less than one year after marrying him.

A legal battle ensued between René BRANCHE and the heirs of Abraham
MARTIN as to who was entitled to what and when. It appears that BRANCHE
had failed to account of assets which were not his to dispose of because
they rightly belonged to Abraham MARTIN's heirs.

In their suit, the heirs were asking that the court grant them a bried
of seizure against the "bestiaux", meaning the cattle, which BRANCHE had
helf in community with his wife Marguerite LANGLOIS, to satisfy a claim
of 376 livres and 6 sols. (BAnQ E1,S2,P1)

This was resolved, in parts, a year or so before he remarried with Jean
Talon issuing a decree in favour of the Jesuits to whom BRANCHE was
directed to make his payment of the part belonging to Charles Amador
MARTIN.

The marriage contract between René BRANCHE and Marie VARIN is dated 23
Oct 1667 (Notary Gilles RAGEOT, in Quebec City). The couple settled in
Petite-Rivière-Saint-Charles.

There are several court cases concerning Renée BRANCHE after that which
leaves the impression, rightly or wrongly, he was a man endowed with a
contentious nature. He won most of the cases he brought forth.

In 1670, he is ordered to build a house for Denis DUQUET because it
seems that René's wife has burned DUQUET's previous house. Too bad there
are no details...

Well, I hope this fleshes him out a bit more for you,

Mona
