Hello Jerry:

Could you be somewhat more specific. UC and LC cover a fairly large area
and there were different conditions in different places. What surname are
you looking for?

Marjorie.

Subject:[QUEBEC-L] MIGRATION PATTERNS

I would sincerely appreciate the help of someone who is familiar with
Canadian history in the 1800-50's. My g-g-grandfather was born in 1822 in
Lower Canada, but appears on the Leeds/Grenville census in 1848 and the
Jefferson Co. NY census in 1850. His parents were born in NY--possibly
around 1800?

Evidently, they moved to Lower Canada between 1800 and 1822. Was there
anything that took place during that time (War of 1812?) that motivated
people to move from NY to Canada?

If others moved from NY also, is there any place in Lower Canada that would
have been more likely to be their residence?

Were there any records that may still be available today that would show
their entrance into or exit from Canada?

Were there any censuses in Lower or Upper Canada in 1810, 1820 or 1830, or
other records that may have recorded their residence there?

Thanks for any assistance you might be able to give!

Jerry
