Ahhhh, Ann, the same old saga, unfortunately, of the trials &
tribulations of trying to sort out from whence, when, for our earliest
English, non-catholic Quebec ancestors! Welcome to the club!
I don't have any 'answers' for you but can offer some sources that
'might' help. First, Nat Arc of Can -genealogy section - have you
checked their military records? particularly the "C series" index cards?
A lot of the early English had a military association. Also at NAC have
you tried a search in ArchiviaNet database? Colonial records - an
amazing number of 'things' pop up there, by name, place, timeframe,
Loyalist etc - be creative.
Have you exhausted Quebec Loyalist records? Are you a member of Que Fam
Hist Soc? Their library (available by snail mail loan to members) has a
number of titles that may point you in a helpful direction. If he may
have been there earlier you might check out a couple of books - Marcel
Fournier's "Les Europeens au Canada des origines a 1765" and
Marc-Andre's "Les Protestants en Nouvelle France" are two that come to
mind.oh, also Emma Lewis Coleman's "New England captives carried to
Canada...." You can get particulars on all these, others?, from the
online catalogue of Nat Lib of Can. You may well be able to borrow via
ILL (info on their home page) What about census of other areas of Qc for
1765? Particularly Three Rivers & Quebec city - You'll find a list of
census on Marlene Simmons excellent website - you may even luck out &
find something in her database! Sounds like you're familiar w/ Notary
records - have you access (or had someone check ) the Parchamin database
for other mentions? maybe even a marriage contract??
If you're not familiar w/ these mentioned websites pop into our list
archives (see Tagline - or header, if in Digest mode) & keyword search
newbie, w/ & w/out (s), for earliest couple of years.....c'mon back if
you have any problems
Martha
p.s. G'luck!
