Your translation is almost correct, Sue. «Le choeur» is more precisely
translated "the chancel". It is the part of the church surrounding the main
altar, where pews are set up for "altar boys" or "choir boys". In most
churches, the choir does not sit in the chancel, but in the «jubé», or "choir
loft". The left side of the nave and chancel is called the "gospel side",
because the gospel was read from the left side of the altar.
